Avon Angling teams of Four. 06/11/11.
Lands End Fishery Wedmore Somerset.
Peg 32 Specimen Lake.
Round 5 back at Lands End on peg 32 far left hand corner of the specimen lake. This peg has no island to fish to but the end bank to fish along which is 4 feet deep in tight to the bank and no real shelf to fish on and it has a tree growing out from the bank at 17 metre plus an aerator at waggler range 21 metres which wasn’t fished due to all my rods being at home in the shed.
For the first time this series I was ready at the whistle starting on the paste at 16 metre towards the end of the tree feeding micro pellet and damped 4mm coarse pellet. I missed 3 bites on this until I caught a ½ lb Roach and lost a Carp which was probably fouled. Changing to soft pellet at12:00 I had an 8 lb carp then another 10 minutes later and lost 2 others.
During this time I have been feeding chop worm and caster tight into the end bank where I had 2 Perch on the first look then re feeding with a full pot (Mike Nicholas seasons total bait allowance).
At 14:00 out of the blue the aerator came on unexpectedly which was switch off 5 minute later by Mike Duckett, during this time I missed a bite on soft pellet and then hooked a carp as Mike was coming down the steps after hitting the off button. This fish manage to plough through the tree and got snagged which caused a lost hook length plus moving a branch attach to some heavy line.
The next ½ hour a hooked 4 Carp losing 3 of them in the line. Talking to Dave Roper after the line was there on the last teams of four matches it’s not there now because at the end of the match I climb out in the tree a pull it out about 20 yards of 20lb mono.
With the edge line my only fishable option it was this line I fished to the end catching about 14lb of silvers mainly Perch no Carp for a most enjoyable last hour all the fish falling to worms over potted in caster and worm.
The match finished all to quickly when the scale arrived I had 3 Carp for 20lbs and 16lb 6oz of Silvers mostly Perch a Chub and 4 Roach to a pound. This weight put me 4 in my section beaten by the 3 anglers to my left but my silvers put me 2nd in the silvers and picking up £65.
The line problem cause me a frame position today but I would not have caught the e fish down the edge every cloud has a “silver” lining. The match was won by trigger he on fire this season with 86lb of carp from peg 22 on Match Lake the other 2 place where to my left so far side of Specimen Lake was the place to be.
