Avon Angling Teams of Four.

Avon Angling Teams of Four.
Round 6 (final round). 20-11-11.
Viaduct Fishery. Cary, Lodge and Match.
PEG 101 Cary. Draw 9.00 fishing 10.30 to 16.00.

I’ve been looking forward to this match it was the last round of the brilliant Avon angling Teams of Four fished on the South West best commercial fishery. With 2 section on Cary, 1 on Lodge Lake and 1 on Match Lake. With the BBC weather forecast predicting 10mph South Easterly winds and 14 degrees a good match was likely with the Pellet ban enforced in matches from the 1st November might have some impact on the weights.
So arm with Caster ,Worms,Sweetcorn,Meat,Bread and a bag of Gimps(John Bradford) green ground bait and peg 101 on Cary setting up waggler for fishing Caster at 25 metres, lead to fish towards the aerator and a 16 metre pole just in case as a backup line. In hindsight 1 lead rod and 20 grains of corn was all I needed.
Chucking the lead out on the whistle without feeding any of my other lines which I fill is important to try and get early Carp only to watch Kev Perry catch one instantly on the pop up bread. Changing over to the bread I loss 2 Carp in the 1st hour one breaking my hook length the other the hook pulling out ¾ of the way back.
The second hour see me chucking the waggler out to break the boredom of staring out the end of my lead rod catching a Skimmer second chuck then no more bites this was then put down not to be pick up again. The pole was briefly tried too to be shelved as well.
Into the third hour I have my 1st Carp a good one about 12lb then 10 minutes later another slightly smaller on 3 bits of Sweet corn hair rig on 12” hook length.
I end up catching 6 Carp and a Skimmer for 64lb I will not bore you with how I skilfully caught them just that a couple of the times I was actually watching when the rod got pulled round but more often than not I wasn’t.
This weight put me 5th overall 3rd in my section and a section £60 default pick up as Kev Perry framed with 9 carp for 106lb and some of the time he was watching as well but more often he was not.
My man of the match was Des Shipp who caught 48lb of Skimmer 34lb of Carp from peg 68 on Lodge just awesome from one of the very best.

Avon Angling Teams of Four.

Avon Angling teams of Four. 06/11/11.
Lands End Fishery Wedmore Somerset.
Peg 32 Specimen Lake.
Round 5 back at Lands End on peg 32 far left hand corner of the specimen lake. This peg has no island to fish to but the end bank to fish along which is 4 feet deep in tight to the bank and no real shelf to fish on and it has a tree growing out from the bank at 17 metre plus an aerator at waggler range 21 metres which wasn’t fished due to all my rods being at home in the shed.
For the first time this series I was ready at the whistle starting on the paste at 16 metre towards the end of the tree feeding micro pellet and damped 4mm coarse pellet. I missed 3 bites on this until I caught a ½ lb Roach and lost a Carp which was probably fouled. Changing to soft pellet at12:00 I had an 8 lb carp then another 10 minutes later and lost 2 others.
During this time I have been feeding chop worm and caster tight into the end bank where I had 2 Perch on the first look then re feeding with a full pot (Mike Nicholas seasons total bait allowance).
At 14:00 out of the blue the aerator came on unexpectedly which was switch off 5 minute later by Mike Duckett, during this time I missed a bite on soft pellet and then hooked a carp as Mike was coming down the steps after hitting the off button. This fish manage to plough through the tree and got snagged which caused a lost hook length plus moving a branch attach to some heavy line.
The next ½ hour a hooked 4 Carp losing 3 of them in the line. Talking to Dave Roper after the line was there on the last teams of four matches it’s not there now because at the end of the match I climb out in the tree a pull it out about 20 yards of 20lb mono.
With the edge line my only fishable option it was this line I fished to the end catching about 14lb of silvers mainly Perch no Carp for a most enjoyable last hour all the fish falling to worms over potted in caster and worm.
The match finished all to quickly when the scale arrived I had 3 Carp for 20lbs and 16lb 6oz of Silvers mostly Perch a Chub and 4 Roach to a pound. This weight put me 4 in my section beaten by the 3 anglers to my left but my silvers put me 2nd in the silvers and picking up £65.
The line problem cause me a frame position today but I would not have caught the e fish down the edge every cloud has a “silver” lining. The match was won by trigger he on fire this season with 86lb of carp from peg 22 on Match Lake the other 2 place where to my left so far side of Specimen Lake was the place to be.

Shearwater Lakes.

Going the Distance. 28-10-11.
Shearwater Lakes Crockerton BA12 8AF.
A Friday afternoon fishing session was required after last Sunday disaster at Larford with some long distance feeder practice required as I was woeful. Shearwater Lakes was my destination after dropping Cam at school at 13:00 I was fishing half way up the road side bank at 13:50 with a breath taking view of the tree in full autumn splendour and a blue sky. The catching of fish came secondary to chucking a method feeder as far as possible in the same place more than once at 80 turns.
Starting off at 55 turns chucking a 24 gram guru method and a white chocolate boilie is a comfortable chuck with my Garbolino Distance Feeder rod then during the 3 hour session I ended cast to about my limit of 84 turns.
How to exceed this distance will probably take some coaching unlike Golf there is not a lake professional to call on to improve your swing (cast).
The fishing was excellent catching 18 Bream from 12 ounces to 4 pound considering I’ve not fished in one spot and casted every couple of minutes I was well happy.
