Peg 124 Barston Lakes . Draw 8:30 Fishing 10:30 to 15:30.
Being a subscriber
to both Match Fishing and Pole Fishing Mags I give this year Classic Match a
go. This is a 200-peg match fished over Barston and Packington Somer sponsored
by Dynamite and Shimano.
I phoned Des Shipp
and Andy Power for info. I thought if you need info why not ask a world champ
and the current UK Champ they both said the same thing Barston fish the Method
feeder at range, fire 8mm pellets as far as possible then fish Method over the
top plus pole and pellets for skimmer and F1s.
Packington is F1
Fishing pellet feeder to the Island or pellets
on the pole.
To quote Des Shipp
“I do not know why I’m telling you this as you will draw 124 at Barston it’s a
flyer as you are never on a bad peg.”
One of the last
people to draw and pick out peg 124 at Barston .
Phone Des up who
swears at me for a while then tells me to fish the method down the edge then
the pole in the Margins if not chuck long to the 18th green. Barston
lakes are part of the West Midlands Golf Club. I expect he is still cussing at
my drawing ability now.
The first hour I
manage to put 50lb of Carp in the net followed by 20lb in the second hour.
The third hour was
quiet and the last 2 hours spent in the margin on the pole fishing my favourite
margin baits Chop Worm and Caster.
During the last hour,
a chap on peg 15 opposite started to catch well on the method.
The last half hour
was poor I was busted on the bite on the method and a Skimmer was all and the
chap on 15 had a lump on the whistle.
I was last to
weigh in on my bank with the chap on 15 having 144lb
I knew I did not
have that much so 129lb for second.
To be honest the
peg was worth more than that but you always thinks that plus it the first time
fishing the Method and there always little tricks to catch a few more.
£400 pools plus
Shimano Beast Master Feeder Rod and Reel made up for the disappointment.

You kept that quiet!!! Great result, even if you did draw a flyer, when on an alien venue and method you did well. Now just get some glasses so you can see where the end of a pallet is ;-)
ReplyDeleteI did hear that you spent most of the time throwing into 115,s margin with the method feeder , but its only a rumour, still well done , it's good to see all those years spent as the Avon angling maggot boys haven't been wasted lol
