Viaduct Silver Fish League Round 4.

VIADUCT SILVER FISH LEAGUE ROUND 4.

VIADUCT FISHERY, LODGE CARY CAMPBELL 04-11-12.

Peg 101 Cary.
Draw 9:15 Fishing 10:45 to 16:30.
Weather Sunny 10 degrees Light North Westerly winds.

This League has been a massive learning curve in Silver Fish fishing with a total of 12 points from 3 matches when the leaders have less than 5.
I am looking to draw somewhere different from “A” Section on Lodge Lake where I am not able to get to grips with the feeding required to keep the Skimmer in front of me. Talking to Tony Rixon who won the previous 2 rounds he caught fishing maggot over ground bait and not suffered small Roach problems which has plague me in the early rounds. After picking his brains on feeding and tactics, I feel more confident.
During the night, I was disturb twice by the heavy rain, which continued, for the first part of my journey down to Viaduct where e Rain was replaced with heavy snow making the roads over the Mendip very treacherous. This condition put the draw back 15 minutes, but by the time we drew, the sun was out and the early morning snow was a distance memory.
Peg 101 was pick out of the coffee tin putting me on Cary right hand bank where the Skimmers showed two matches ago. Andy Neal was on peg 100 (does he ever draw a bad peg he draws more flyers than I do) and Mike Nicholls on 99.
Started on the Waggler due to the bright condition and the over night rain. After a few adjustments to the size of the float and shoting pattern, the float was going under with a string of Roach falling to single caster.
After about an hour Andy caught his first large Skimmer over his Ground bait causing myself to put the float rod down and pick up the Pole. The bites where few and far between but I did have four 6oz Skimmers but wasted to long tiring to make it work.
Luckily, the fish were still on the Waggler line, fished to the end catching Roach, and two Large Skimmers 1 fouled hooked in the wing.
When the scale arrived, I was pleasantly surprised to put 12lb 2oz of silvers on the scales for third in the section but kicking myself for wasting to long on the pole.
